Current events series returns March-April 2026
The Gates Public Library is pleased to present The Great Decisions for a second year.
Produced by the nonpartisan Foreign Policy Association since 1954, The Great Decisions is America’s largest discussion program on world affairs. The program involves reading essays in the Great Decisions Briefing Book, then meeting at the Library to watch a corresponding video and take part in a moderated, informal discussion on the most critical global issues facing America today.
2026 Schedule
The program runs 8 consecutive Mondays, March 2-April 20, 2026, from 2:30-4pm in the Library’s Assini Meeting Room. Attend any or all sessions.

What happens at each group session?
At the start of each session, the group watches a short (20-30 minute) video on the topic outlined in the Briefing Book essay, so it is recommended that you read the essay beforehand. Following the screening, an informal group discussion is held, facilitated by Professor Mark Sample of Monroe Community College.
Where do I get the Briefing Book and is there a cost?
There is no cost to participate in Great Decisions. Briefing Books are free and may be picked up at the Gates Public Library during library hours, starting January 21, 2026. The Briefing Book is yours to keep, so please retain your copy for future sessions. Any leftover copies will be available at the sessions.
Do I need to attend all eight sessions?
No, you may attend as few or as many as you wish. We encourage you to attend them all, as the sessions often relate to each other.
Is registration required?
No, but registration is requested in order to help us better plan the sessions. Registering automatically signs you up for all the sessions, but you’re under no obligation to attend all. Register here.
