Beanstack Comes to Children's Room

Jun 30th, 2015 at 7:49 PM

The Gates Library launched an exciting new service called Beanstack. Beanstack is an online service that helps you find books for your children – and setting up an account is easy! All you have to do is answer a few quick questions about your child’s interests and reading level. After that, you can start exploring the website.

You will receive a weekly book recommendation in your email which comes with a learning tip and a link to our catalog to locate the book. There are other fun features like app recommendations and learning guides, which are lists of books, crafts, activities and more based on a theme.

Beanstack also allows you to log your child’s reading so you can keep track of what books they have read. Logging books allows your child to earn badges that they will be able to pick up in sticker form at the library. Beanstack is a wonderful way to encourage and reward reading!

Early Learning Center Now Open!

Apr 22nd, 2015 at 3:55 PM

The Early Learning Center is now open. Thank you to General Code, Gates-Chili School District Superintendent Kimberle Ward, Town Supervisor Mark Assini, the Gates Town Board, County Legislator It is Tucciarello, State Senator Joe Robach, and the children from the YMCA Preschool for joining us at our grand opening!

The Early Learning Center is designed to promote the activities identified as those necessary for children to enter kindergarten ready to read. These activities are: playing, talking, singing, reading, and writing. It is our hope that parents and children will explore the center together, and have fun while learning. The center is open whenever the library is open, and has been made possible by substantial funding from State Senator Joseph Robach, as well as support from the Gates-Chili Chamber of Commerce, The Friends of the Gates Public Library, the Gates Lions Club, the Gates-Chili Rotary Club, and General Code.
