Effective Monday, March 16, the Gates Public Library will be closed to public entry and assembly until further notice. This decision was made in partnership with the town and Library Board of Trustees, and please know we did not take the decision lightly. We will continue to monitor and assess the situation and adjust services accordingly.
For those of you who have borrowed Library materials in your possession, need not worry of due dates and fines – we are working to extend loan periods at this time.

Gates Library Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Anna Souannavong has been appointed as the library's new Director, effective February 10, 2020.
Board President, Kirk Kettinger says, "The Gates Public Library Board of Trustees is pleased to have had such a strong field from which to choose... We believe that Anna is the right person to move the GPL forward and we are looking forward to great things ahead."
Anna shares, "It is an honor to serve as Library Director in a town I have come to know and appreciate for its diversity, inclusion, and love for community. Whether you're a parent or caregiver with a toddler in tow, a business owner seeking research, applying for jobs, studying for a life-changing exam, or simply here for the enjoyment of browsing collections and connecting with neighbors, patrons are welcome here. I am proud to work alongside talented and passionate library employees dedicated to serving library patrons in all walks of life. I look forward to building on the success of the Gates Public Library and meeting the evolving needs of its community."
Anna has her MS in Information & Library Science from University at Buffalo and studied Recreation and Leisure Management receiving her BS from The College at Brockport. She has over fifteen years of library experience working in various positions across Monroe County including Fairport, Greece, and Webster, before she landed in the Town of Gates in 2016 as Assistant Director. Her success stems from many challenges like learning to speak English as a second language in primary school and independently navigating the education system working towards the American dream. She is a Laotian-American who loves to travel, getting her hands dirty in the outdoors, and connecting with friends and family around a table of food. You can find her with her Bloodhound rescue, Gunnar, watching mma sports on UFC with her husband and supporting his love for the Buffalo Bills. Currently, she is reading, Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg.
Bonnie Todt, a Friends of the Gates Public Library board member, was a tireless library advocate. She volunteered multiple times per week at the bookstore and at book sales. An avid reader, she never missed a book sale. She was an animal lover who opened her home to rescues. Bonnie was a gentle soul with an infectious smile who always put others needs before her own. She will be sorely missed.
