The library offers free notary public services. Here are a few things to know prior to your notarization.

Call ahead for an appointment: To be sure that our notary will be available during your visit, contact the library at 585-247-6446 or gatesreference@libraryweb.org.

Bring valid identification: Identity verification is a requirement for notarization. In most cases, a current, government-issued ID will be necessary to get a document notarized.

Prepare your documents: In order to be notarized, your document must be completely filled out with accurate information. Notaries in New York State may not provide legal advice, so questions about how to complete your document should be directed to the agency requesting the information. Please note that certain documents, such as wills and I-9 forms, cannot be notarized at the Gates Public Library.

Don’t sign until the notary is present: While the rest of the document should be completed ahead of time, the signature must be added to the document in the presence of the notary.
