Programs for August at the
Gates Public Library:

FOR CHILDREN:
• Story Hours: for Ages 2-5 on Mondays, August 2
and 9 at 10 a.m. - 10:40 a.m. For children and their
caregivers. Enjoy stories, fingerplays, circle games and
more! No registration is required
• Time for Tots: for children ages 1-5 and their
caregivers. Wednesday, August 4 form 10:15-11:15 a.m.
Forty minutes of free play and 20 minutes of story time.
No registration is required.
• Wild About Water End of Summer Reading Party:
Family program on Thursday, August 12 from 2:30-3:30
p.m. Celebrate your splashy, splashy summer with games,
raffles, food and fun. Register now for this hour full
of activities.

FOR YOUNG ADULTS:
• Junior Friends: for ages 9-16. Tuesday, August
10 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. This is our young adult
volunteers group who meet once a month for projects and
activities. Call the library for more information.
• Teen Book Group: For teens in grades 7-9. This
teen book discussion group will meet on Wednesday,
August 4 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Come share your ideas on
the books you have read. This month the group will be
discussing realistic fiction.
• Afternoon Crafts: This series of afternoon
crafts will be held on August 4 and 11 for young adults
ages 9-18. The program is from 2:00-2:45 p.m. for each
session. All materials will be provided. August 4th
craft is locker magnets and August 11 is water bottle
holders. Register now for this program.
• ACT Test Secrets 101: For students in grades 6
and up (Parents are welcome too). Program is on
Wednesday, August 25 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. This program
will cover the format and content of the ACT and will
walk you through various question types. Registration is
required and you may register now for this informative
program.

FOR ADULTS:
• Searching for the Erie Canal: This program,
presented by Tim McDonnell, will be held on Tuesday,
August 17 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. You will learn about the
canals and the remarkable ‘ruins’ that grace our great
state. Registration is required.
• Seven Habits of Highly Effective Job Seekers:
This program, presented by Dr. Rita Carey, ED.D, will be
held on Wednesday, August 18 from 10 a.m. till 12 noon.
Register now to learn how to apply the principles of
Stephen R. Covey’s bestselling book, The Seven Habits of
Highly Effective People to your job search. Many
strategies will be covered in this informative program.
Registration is required.
• New on the Job Workshop: This program,
presented by Dr. Rita Carey, ED.D, will be held on
Wednesday, August 25 from 10 a.m. till 12 noon. This
program will help you make a successful transition into
a new job environment with new people. Registration is
required.
