Chamber of Commerce Makes Donation to Library Preview Image

Chamber of Commerce Makes Donation to Library

Nov 24th, 2014 at 6:18 PM

The Gates-Chili Chamber of Commerce raised $10,000 at their 2014 annual golf tournament and dinner auction at Brook Lea Country Club. The proceeds were split between the Friends of the Gates Public Library, the Friends of the Chili Public Library, and the Gates-Chili Chamber of Commerce. Chamber leaders presented each library with a check for $4,453.83. This money will be used to buy the Gates Public Library 11 iPads which will be used in technology instruction classes, programs where children create digital works of art, as well as made available for public use throughout the library. Without the financial support provided by the Gates-Chili Chamber of Commerce, we would not have been able to make these much needed additions to our library's services.

The Gates Public Library and the Chili Public Library will again be the beneficiaries of the Gates-Chili Chamber of Commerce's 2015 golf tournament and dinner auction fundraiser. The date will be August 3rd, 2015 and the event will be held at the Brook Lea County Club. Details on how to purchase tickets will be forthcoming.

Meet the Staff: Aubrey Preview Image

Meet the Staff: Aubrey

Sep 12th, 2014 at 9:00 AM

What do you do at the Gates Public Library?

I'm the Holds and Interlibrary Loan Clerk so I handle all the requests for our materials from other libraries as well as the materials coming in from other libraries that have been requested by our patrons. I also help out with managing the day to day concerns in the Circulation Department.

What book has changed your life and how?

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I first read it as a teenager and it really impressed upon me the importance of the free exchange of ideas and how much we should value such freedoms in our culture. From that point on it became important to me to not just go along with banning or dismissing something because of popular opinion, but to look at it, become informed and decide for myself.

What book made the biggest impact on you as a child?

The Story of Ferdinand by Leaf Munro.

You wake up to find your house is burning down. You only have time to save one object. What is it?

What kind of horrible question is this?! As long as my husband and my animals made it out, everything else is replaceable.

What is your spirit guide animal?

Well, the sorting hat put me in Ravenclaw so I think I'm supposed to say eagle.

All of the titles under "Staff Recommendations" were selected by Aubrey.
