Wine Tasting Fundraiser Tickets

Each year over 50 children in the Gates community are unable to attend preschool through the school district's current lottery placement system. The Gates Public Library is seeking to combat this lack of opportunity by partnering with the Gates Chili Central School District to create a community education space within the library. Your support will afford 54 children in the opportunity to attend preschool at the library from 2017 onward, and countless others throughout the years.

What's more, this space will be used to greatly expand our educational and recreational programs and special events for everyone in the community, from infants to seniors, and everyone in between.

Thank You to Our Sponsors

ACM Global Laboratories, A Gust of Sun Winery, The Gates and Chili branches of M&T Bank, Allied Janitorial LLC, Communications Workers of America Local 1170, Tri-Delta Resources, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Heritage Packaging, Tractleads, and Stantec.

What do you do at the Gates Public Library?

I'll be working to enhance and expand library programming for adults while pursuing to further develop community partnerships.

What book has changed your life and how?

"Ten Stupid Things Women Do To Mess Up Their Lives," by Laura C. Schlessinger. I randomly pulled this book off the shelf and 256 pages later I learned to take full responsibility of my life. She keeps it real and I like that.

What book made the biggest impact on you as a child?

"Matilda," by Roald Dahl. I'm the youngest of 4 children and grew up with very strict parents. Her practical jokes and inner resources helped me through many of my own annoyances.

You wake up to find your house is burning down. You only have time to save one object. What is it?

My fiance - he isn't actually an object but everything else can be replaced.

What is your spirit guide animal?

Apparently the owl.

All of the titles under "Staff Recommendations" were selected by Anna.

Nearby are the shelves with resources that have web addresses for job posting sites, and workforce development training. Civil service test preparation materials, and job search guides are also located in this area. One-on-one assistance is always available from a librarian.

What do you do at the Gates Public Library?

I work at the circulation desk as a Library Aide. I charge, renew and discharge circulating materials and I work to help patrons to the best of my power. I've been trained to handle a variety of issues and I learn new things every day.

What book has changed your life and how?

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams is my all-time favorite book, and earns the place as a book that changed my life. It isn't the most meaningful book ever, but I don't think I've ever enjoyed a book as much as this one.

What book made the biggest impact on you as a child?

I used to check out Look-Alikes by Joan Steiner all the time, each scene in the book is amazingly creative and awesome to look at. I remember it lacking in the word department, but the pictures inside completely make up for it.

You wake up to find your house is burning down. You only have time to save one object. What is it?

Assuming my family and animals made it out, I would probably grab my cell phone so I could call 911. I wouldn't worry about anything else too much, we have most important things backed up or protected in some way.

What is your spirit guide animal?

My spirit guide animal is the glorious otter, because they're awesome and they spend a ton of time just chilling on their backs in the water. If humans were more like otters, we probably wouldn't have wars (unless they were oyster-related wars).

All of the titles under "Staff Recommendations" were selected by Matt.
