Food for Fines Preview Image

The Gates Public Library has partnered with the Gates Conservation Board to collect donations for those in need. Between November 16th and December 16th $1.00 of late fines will be waived for each canned good, toiletry, cosmetic product, or household cleaning supply you bring to the library. Up to $5.00 in late fines will be waived per person. We are also collecting winter clothing for men, women, and children. Please call Greg at (585) 429-8298 for more information.

All proceeds will be donated to the Open Door Mission Coldwater Road Women and Children Residential Home here in Gates.

Late Night Halloween Party: Monster Ball

Join us for a free classic Halloween event, complete with trivia, a Frankenstein-themed escape challenge, special effects makeup, tarot card reading, monster horror movies, a doughnut eating contest, and so much more! This event is for adults ages 21 and up.

2018 Girls Who Code Program

Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization which aims to support and increase the number of women in computer science. The organization is working to close the gender gap in technology and change the image of what a programmer looks like and does.

Our after school club is open to girls in grades 6 – 12. We will meet every Thursday (except November 22nd) from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the Gates Public Library. The club will start on September 20th and end on December 20th.

The girls will learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals, and functions that form the basis for all programming languages. They will also work in teams to design a website that solves real world problems the girls care about.

Summer Reading 2018: Libraries Rock!

It's summertime and Libraries Rock! Whether you are a kid or a grown up, we have reading prizes, library programs, and summer fun for you. You were going to read something this summer anyway, right? Why not register and enjoy a prize or two?

Children ages birth to 12 can read or be read to at least 10 minutes a day. Tweens and teens ages 9 - 18 just tell us what book or books they read and what they thought about it. And yes, ages 9 to 12 can choose to do both programs! Adults of all ages also tell us what they read, and are eligible for great prize drawings.

Come to our Circulation Desk and we'll help you get started on our summer reading program!

Throughout the month of June the Gates Public Library will be collecting donations on behalf of SupportOurTroops.org. These donations will be given to American servicemen and servicewomen who are deployed overseas. Donations can be left in the red, white, and blue box near the coffee bar, or dropped off at the "Ask Here" desk. The following items are needed:

  • Phone Cards*
  • Visa and MasterCard Gift Cards*
  • iTunes Gift Cards*
  • Ear Buds
  • USB Flash Drives
  • AA and AAA Batteries
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Beef Jerky and Slim Jims
  • Powdered Drink Mix (To flavor local water)
  • Gum, Breath Mints, and Candy
  • Personal Care Items (Men's and Women's Razors, Feminine Products, Lip Balm, Dental Floss, Lip Balm, Foot Powder, Etc.)

* These items should be left at the "Ask Here" desk.
