Former Library
Director Susan Swanton has authored a new book about the
history of the Gates Public Library!

Celebrate fifty years of the Gates Public Library and
twenty five years of The Friends of The Gates Public
Library in this pictorial history, decade by decade,
from 1961 to the present.

Library services have dramatically changed over the past
fifty years with automation and the proliferation of
informational and entertainment
formats. See how Gates Public Library has evolved as
culture and the technology revolution have reshaped
local library services.

Aiding Gates Public Library since 1986, The Friends of
The Gates Public Library, as an organized support group
for the library, have provided volunteers and
fundraising efforts to augment tax supported library
services – a perfect public-private partnership! Where
would Gates Public Library be without their Friends!

Enjoy these pictures as they illustrate the changes for
Gates Public Library over the past half century.

All profits from the sale of this book will benefit the
Friends’ new library fund!
